I'm open to any thoughts, recommendations, comments, accusations of insanity, etc. I have to make a new engine mount anyway, so I'd like to tackle this now rather than down the line. If I wanted to add a small alternator to the engine, how would be the best way? Slip a pulley on the shaft between the clutch (a comet 780) and the engine? If I do that, and the drive shaft is no longer long enough, would it be safe to create a drive shaft extension out of 1" stock with a hole down the center and just use a longer bolt to hold everything on?Īnd yes, I know that anything I do is going to change the alignment of the clutches. I plan on adding a custom-built trolling motor system to my Hustler with 2 motors and joystick control (building everything myself) so I'm going to need a decent amount of power. Now that I have the engine, though, I'm looking through the manual and can't seem to find anything about a charging system. Even though I still have a lot to do before I'm ready for the engine, the coupon was only good until July 31st, so I could pass that up for the Hustler I'm rebuilding. Sorry, i am still in a food coma.Harbor Freight sent me a coupon book in July that had a coupon to get the 22hp Predator engine for $599.

Still not sure purpose of bolt? Used to secure PTO or used to back off when removing PTO? There are a lot of questions in this post.

The center bolt is supposed to thread into the engine shaft correct? Or is it supposed to thread into the electric PTO? If you can enlarge my picture you can see what looks like mashed threads in the PTO. And i may not have not tightened the center bolt enough. The diameter of the washer i was using wash too large. What ever lines up best I would guess be OK. The bracket bolts to the engine block on Kohlers it is in front of the PTO but Wildmanc120 wnet behind to get it on his predator conversion. The washer should be small enough that it does not contact the outer ring of the bearing. The seal over the balls doesn't stick out as far and should not be in contact with the washer. The PTO bearing center piece turns with the shaft so is not moving relative to the Bolt and washer.
